Methode Ancestral, 500mL, $14/bottle
7.8% Alc by Vol
Neighborhood apples and pears from family homes and abandoned orchards of Lafayette, Orinda and Moraga are hand harvested by volunteers of the Moraga Lions Club. Fruit that would otherwise fall to ruin is instead crushed, pressed and wild fermented in French Neutral Oak Barrels before undergoing a secondary fermentation in bottle to create a truly special cider that showcases the collaborative spirit and unique terroir of the Lamorinda community.
A portion of all Community Crush proceeds directly benefit the Moraga Lions Club.
2024 Newtown Pippin
PET-NAT
Pétillant Naturel, 500mL, $16/bottle
8.2% Alc by Vol
Hand-picked from mature, low-intervention orchards in Sebastopol, California, Newtown Pippin apples are crushed, pressed, and wild-fermented while remaining in contact with the skins, seeds, and stems. This extended maceration enhances complexity, extracting the full character, tannin, and texture of the fruit. Unfined and unfiltered, the cider is bottled before primary fermentation finishes, resulting in a softly sparkling expression of terroir, time, and place.
The Newtown Pippin apple, one of America’s oldest varieties, originated in 18th-century Newtown, Long Island. Known for its crisp texture and complex flavor, it features bright green apple, citrus, honey, and a touch of earthiness with a tart finish. Its balance of sweetness, acidity, and tannin makes it ideal for crafting ciders with depth and character.
2024 Quince
PET NAT
Pétillant Naturel, 750mL, $22.95/bottle
7.2% Alc by Vol
Biodynamic Quince from Anderson Valley, California and Granniwinkle apples from the Sierra Foothills are hand harvested, crushed, pressed and wild fermented in separate neutral French oak barrels from naturally present native yeasts. Unfined and unfiltered, the finishing Quince and Granniwinkle cider is blended and bottled before primary fermentation completes, resulting in a balanced, quince-forward profile with delicate effervescence.
Quince, a fruit with origins dating back to ancient Persia, has been prized for centuries for its aromatic qualities. Although too tart and astringent to eat raw, it transforms when cooked, developing a rich, floral sweetness with hints of pear, apple, and citrus. Its firm texture and complex flavor make it a favorite for jams, jellies, and ciders, offering a unique blend of tartness and fragrance that adds depth and elegance to culinary creations.
